The city of Ellensburg has announced that the Rotary Park off-leash dog park will be closed for maintenance on Feb. 19-20. Work that is planned includes minor fence repair, changing out surfacing, and leveling out some of the low spots in the park. Both sides of the park will be closed, according to city staff.

US Highway 12 in Naches has been reopened following repairs to a section of the roadway that was washed out during flooding in December. The Washington State Department of Transportation said repairs to the highway are nearly complete, and the highway was reopened on Thursday.


Floridel Bowers of Ellensburg celebrated her 100th birthday on Friday. She was born in Ellensburg on Feb. 13, 1926, and for the last 75 years or so, has lived on the family farm near Kittitas Highway. The family still owns the land that was once called Rock Acres Dairy, and Floridel — a “farm girl” and one of eight children — grew up taking a buggy, or riding a horse, to school.

The Central Washington University’s Women’s Basketball team plays Western Oregon on Thursday at Western Oregon in Monmouth, Oregon at 5:15 p.m.


The Central Washington University’s  Men’s Basketball team plays Western Oregon on Thursday in Monmouth, Oregon, at 7:30 p.m.


The Central Washington University softball team plays San Francisco State at 9:00 a.m. in Nampa, Idaho, on Friday.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?


The FISH Open Table Lunch is Fried Chicken Mashed Potato Bowl with mixed vegetables, a roll and apples.  The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
