Cle Elum City Council to consider bankruptcy

The Cle Elum City Council will consider a resolution to approve filing a Chapter 9 Bankruptcy Petition and employ Stole Rives LLP as bankruptcy council at a special meeting at 5 p.m. tonight. The city has been discussing bankruptcy in light of a $22.2 million judgment leveled against the city in December relating to the City Heights housing project.


City facility to serve as warming center

With low temperatures in the forecast, the lobby between the Ellensburg Public Library and Hal Holmes Community Center will open at 8 a.m., each day this week to serve as a morning warming center.


Point-in-time counts approach

The annual Point-in-Time Count of the homeless population is Thursday. Training for those interested in assisting is from 11 a.m. to noon today. Contact HopeSource at 509-925-1448 for registration information.


Bullfrog Flats development public hearing on Thursday

A public hearing for the Bullfrog Flats Development Project will be at 6 p.m., Thursday, at Cle Elum City Hall. The Bullfrog Flats Development Project is a phased, mixed-use development located in the western part of Cle Elum, between Bullfrog Road and SR 903. The application includes the first three phases of the project. These phases are part of an overall project proposed to be developed over an approximately 10-year period and include 1,334 single-family and multifamily housing units, 950,000 square of business park uses, and open space including parks, trails and recreational facilities. The hearing is before the city’s Hearing Examiner.


Family Storytelling program on Thursday

Hal Holmes Community Center hosts Family Storytelling: The Importance of Story to Family Legacy at 6:30 p.m., Thursday. The event aims to help people learn how to incorporate storytelling in preserving family history. It is free and open to the public.


Lunar New Year Festival on Thursday

A Lunar New Year Festival will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, in the SURC Ballroom. The Korean Culture Club, Asian Studies Program, and others are giving students and community members a space to celebrate and others to learn about and enjoy the holiday through entertainment and food.

 

Faculty recital set for Friday

CWU music professors saxophonist Aaron Burr and pianist Giyong Ahn will hold a joint faculty recital at 6 p.m., Friday, in the McIntyre Music Building. The show will explore themes of loss, memory, folklore and cats. The performance is free and open to the public.

High school teams in action tonight

In high school basketball tonight, the Ellensburg hosts Quincy with the girls’ game at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m. The Kittitas boys host La Salle at 7 p.m. The Cle Elum-Roslyn teams are at Highland with the girls at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.

 

Central baseball and softball ranked

The Central Washington University baseball team was selected third in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. The Wildcats, who finished last season with a 21-29 record, open the season at Stanislaus State in Turlock, California on Friday. Central’s softball team was picked four in the GNAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll. Central, which went 17-30 last season, opens play at Chico State in Irving, California on Friday.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is sweet garlic chili meatballs, Jasmine rice, broccoli and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
