NEWS

Library to celebrate its anniversary

The Ellensburg Public Library celebrates its 115th anniversary from 4 to 6 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Hal Holmes Community Center. The celebration includes light refreshments, cake and live music by the Kael Bartness Trio.


CWU back in session

The winter quarter at Central Washington University starts today. CWU Libraries will host a Wildcat Welcome with warm beverages from 10 a.m. to noon in the Brooks Library lobby.


Voting is open for chamber awards

Voting is now open for the 117th annual Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce Business Awards. There are 10 award categories. Information on the nominees and voting is available on the chamber’s website and Facebook page.


Road closures set

Sections of Seattle Avenue and Locust Street will be closed starting Jan. 20 to allow for utility extension work. Seattle Avenue will be closed about 400 feet east of Willow and Locust will be closed about 1,3000 feet south of East Capitol Avenue. The contractor will drill well holes for dewatering on Jan. 20 and return to start excavation on Jan. 27.


SPORTS

Tiny Tots registration opens today

Registration for Tiny Tots Basketball opened Monday. Tiny Tots is for kids age 3 to 5 years old with winter camps held from the end of January through March. Space is limited and usually fills fast. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


3-on-3 registration ends Friday

Registration for Adult 3-on-3 Basketball closes on Friday. Games are played on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The league is open to men and women over 16. Individuals can register and be placed on a free agent list. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.


Central rugby players selected

CWU Rugby players Vai Pulu and Lilly Thomas were invited to the USA Women’s 7s Pathway Camp at the Elite Training Center in Chula Vista, California over the holidays. The Central duo and 17 other athletes participated in the camp with the long-term goal of competing in the 2028 Olympics.


Volk is finalist for national award

CWU football safety Tanner Volk has been named a finalist for the Cliff Harris Award given to the nation’s small college defensive player of the year. Volk, who was a finalist last year, has earned multiple All-America awards for his play this past season.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is green chili and cheese beef burrito and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
