NEWS

City seeks input on Rotary Park plans

The city of Ellensburg is conducting a survey to gather public input on the development of the Rotary Park master plan. A primary focus of the plan is to identify a location for a fieldhouse building at the park. The need for a fieldhouse was heightened this winter when the city’s Racquet and Recreation Center on Vantage Highway was destroyed in a fire. The survey is available on the city’s website. People are asked to complete the survey by Aug. 4.


High school tech team takes home honors

The Ellensburg High School team of Glo (Steven) Lauderdale, Emmajoon Ellis and Alan Ruelas placed first in video game design at the National Technology Student Association Convention in Nashville in early July. Other EHS students also placed in the competition.


SPORTS

CWU athletes earn honor

Central Washington University won the GNAC Academic Title for the third straight year. The Academic All-Sports standings are based on the cumulative grade point averages of all the student-athletes on the official team rosters, including redshirts. Central edged Seattle Pacific by two points for the title.



EVENTS

Plant diagnostic clinic is today

Free gardening advice is available at the Master Gardner Plant diagnostic clinic from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., today at the WSU Extension office, 911 E. Seventh Ave.


Bookmobile on the road

The Ellensburg Bookmobile will make stops today at the Millpond mobile home park, Crestview Apartments on Alder Street, Rainier Street and the Hillside Mobile Home Park starting at 5 p.m.


Workshop to focus on mental health

A workshop on employee mental health will be offered at noon, Wednesday at the Business Development Center in Cle Elum. The free program features a presentation U.S. Department of Labor and Industries Benefits Adviser Clive Mitchell. The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce organizes the workshop.


Night market set for Wednesday

The Ellensburg Night Market takes place Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. on Pine Street between Third and Fourth avenues. The event features vendors and micro-business owners in the community. The night market is organized by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.


Teens invited to Escape Room

Teens can participate in a Retro-Attic Escape Room event at 2:30 p.m., Thursday at Hal Holmes Community Center as part of the Ellensburg Public Library’s Teen Summer Reading program. The event is free but registration is required. Information is available on the library’s website.


Concert series kicks off

Elllensburg’s Music in the Park series starts on Thursday with the Rod Giles Band performing at 6:30 p.m. at Alder Street Park. The series continues every Thursday through Aug. 24.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is beef stroganoff, peas and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
