The city of Ellensburg hosts its annual Juneteenth Community Celebration this Friday, June 19, from 4 to 9 p.m. at Unity Park. It's free and family-friendly, with a short opening program at 5 followed by live music and entertainment. Organizers say bring a lawn chair and stay a while. City offices and facilities will be closed Friday for the holiday and reopen Monday.

Want a word with the people who run the city? Two councilmembers will be at Rotary Park this Wednesday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for "Coffee with City Council." It happens during Touch a Truck, where kids can climb on and check out public works trucks and equipment from 11 to 2:30. Rotary Park is at 1200 West Fifth Avenue, and both events are free.

Valley View Elementary has a new principal this fall. Kelly Rotter is taking over for Rob Moffat, who's retiring after 16 years. Rotter has spent eight years as his assistant principal and has taught nearly every grade from kindergarten through fourth. She says her goal is simple: meet every student, family, and staff member where they are and help them grow.

A couple of quick civic notes. The city is asking residents to weigh in on what a new or improved community pool should include. That survey is open through June 21. And if you have drinking water questions, the city's 2026 Water Quality Report is out, and Ellensburg's water meets or exceeds every state and federal standard.

More than two decades after setting school records as a running back at Ellensburg, Nolan Teasley’s set to take over as general manager of the Minnesota Vikings. The 2002 graduate spent the last 13 years with the reigning Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, beginning as an intern for the Super Bowl XLVIII champions and working his way through the player personnel department before becoming an assistant GM in 2023. Minnesota officially named Teasley its new GM on Monday
