With concerns over the city’s low balance in its general fund, the Cle Elum City Council has agreed to borrow up to $300,000 from the city’s sewer fund. City officials said the general fund was in “temporary need of cash” and needed the internal loan so it can continue to pay for essential services.
Ben Kokjer has announced his candidacy for Kittitas County sheriff. Kokjer has been with the department for 21 years and is currently the chief criminal deputy. He is the first person to announce his candidacy for the post. Current Sheriff Clay Myers announced his retirement earlier this month.
Ellensburg community contra dances will continue their 28th season in early March at the Hal Holmes Community Center. The next dance is at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 7. The event, which features live music and dance instruction, is supported by the Ellensburg Public Library and admission is free.
The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and the League of Women Voters of Kittitas County will host a nonpartisan candidate training workshop in Ellensburg this March.
The three-part series starts next week. It will be held on Tuesdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on March 3, March 10, and March 17 at the Kittitas Chamber of Commerce, 609 N. Main St.

SPORTS
The Central Washington University’s Men’s Basketball team plays #5 seed Seattle Pacific at 7:30 p.m on Thursday, up in Bellingham.
The CWU Track and Field home opener is Friday here at home.
The Central Washington University’s Softball team plays Northwest Nazarene at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, also at home.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?
The FISH Open Table Lunch schedule for March is not out yet. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
