NEWS

Open house moves to larger venue

Due to an expected large turnout, the location for the Sleep Center open house on May 22 has been moved from the City Council chambers to Hal Holmes Community Center. The open house will be from 6 to 8 p.m., starting with a presentation, and followed by a question-and-answer period. The sleep center also will be the topic of a joint City Council and Kittitas County commissioner meeting on June 13. The proposed Sleep Center location on South Ruby Street drew public opposition and led the council to request the public suggest alternate sites.

 

Kittitas County business wins Enterprise Challenge

Simply Social, a digital marketing agency and creative studio that works with Kittitas County businesses, placed first in the 2024 Enterprise Challenge. The Enterprise Challenge is a business plan competition sponsored by the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and the Yakima County Development Association. Simply Social won $10,000 for the win. I Love Cle Elum, an online gift shop featuring distinctive keepsakes and hand-drawn artwork placed third and received $2,500.

 

Speakers Bureau focuses on homelessness

The Speaker’s Bureau presentation at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, at Hal Holmes Community Center is Homelessness and the Meaning of Home. The speaker is Josephine Ensign. The Speakers Bureau, sponsored by the Ellensburg Public Library and Humanities Washington, is free and open to the public.

 

Spurgeon Gallery hosts thesis exhibition

“Anemoia,” a Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibit by Matthew Potter and Charlie Tadlock opens with an artist talk at 4 p.m., today, in Randall Hall Toom 117. A reception in the Sarah Spurgeon Gallery follows the talk at 5 p.m. The exhibit runs through June 1.

 

Central opens expanded Student Health Services Center

CWU officially opened a new expanded Student Health Services facility on East 11th Avenue that provides more space and a higher level of service to students. The clinic employs three family practitioners, one psychiatric ARNP (advanced nurse practitioner), and a registered dietitian, with plans to bring on a fourth family practitioner in the fall.

 

 

SOURCE starts Wednesday

CWU’s annual Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE) is Wednesday and Thursday in the SURC. SOURCE showcases the research work of CWU undergraduate and graduate students and guest presentations from local high school students.

 

Saxophone recital on Wednesday

The Spring Quarter Solo and Chamber Saxophone Studio Recital is at 6 p.m., Wednesday in the McIntyre Music Building. The recital is free.

 

SPORTS

EHS grads score for CWU track

Ellensburg High School graduates E’lexis Hollis, Josh Boast and Wyatt Franklin helped the CWU women’s and men’s track teams place second in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Track Championship this past weekend at CWU. Hollis was a member of the first-place 4x100 meters women’s relay team. Boast placed first in the 400 meters and was part of the winning 4x100 meters men’s relay team. Franklin placed second in the discus and third in the shot put. The Wildcats will find out who qualified for the national championship meet within the next two weeks.

 

Kittitas and Cle Elum-Roslyn softball start district play

The Kittitas and Cle Elum-Roslyn softball teams play in the district playoffs today. Kittitas hosts Columbia-Burbank at 4 p.m., and Cle Elum-Roslyn travels to play at River View at 4 p.m.

 

Cle Elum-Roslyn baseball opens state play today

The Cle Elum-Roslyn High School baseball team faces Ilwaco at 2 p.m., today at Rotary Park in Ellensburg in the opening round of the state 2B baseball tournament. This is a loser-out game with the winner advancing to play Toutle Lake on Saturday at Castle Rock High School.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken Parmesan, mixed vegetables and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
