The Cle Elum City Council meets tonight to interview two candidates for an open seat on the seven-member council. Jessi Campbell, a longtime Cle Elum resident and Cle Elum Fire Department firefighter-EMT, and Sarah Hubbard, an associate director at Harvard Kennedy School's Allen Lab for Democracy Renovation, both put their names forward to fill Position 4. The seat opened April 23rd when Jon Cornelius stepped down, citing health challenges made worse by the stress of the job. Both candidates say they intend to run for the seat in the next election. The interviews start at 6 p.m. tonight at Cle Elum City Hall.


Kittitas County Community Development Services has set a public hearing on the 2026 Comprehensive Plan Periodic Update. The plan is the county's roadmap for growth and development over the next two decades. County staff is also proposing new critical area and development regulations to back up the update. The Board of County Commissioners will take public testimony at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2nd, in the commissioners auditorium at the Kittitas County Courthouse, 205 West Fifth Avenue in Ellensburg.


A new business has opened in downtown Ellensburg. Sienna Pascoe has launched The Brand Salon, a hair and nails shop with a black-and-white Western style theme in the heart of downtown. Pascoe says she wanted to bring a fresh look to the local salon scene.


And the Ellensburg Dance Ensemble opens its production of "The Little Prince: An Original Dance Interpretation" this week at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The show, based on Antoine de Saint-Exupéry's 1943 novella, stars David Stevens and Layla Rivera. Check the Morgan box office or the Dance Ensemble's website for showtimes and tickets.


A few things happening around the county today. At noon, the Lion's Rock Visiting Writers Series brings author Sonora Jha to the Multicultural Center's multipurpose room on the CWU campus. Wildcat Farm hosts its Gather and Grow Series at 2 p.m., with a session on transplanting and seeding. And in the evening, three local councils meet: Roslyn at 5 p.m., Cle Elum and Kittitas City both at 6 p.m. The Valley Voices Community Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m. at Ellensburg Presbyterian Church if you'd like to drop in and sing.


SPORTS


CWU track and field competed at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kansas, this past weekend, with the women's team finishing tied for 15th in the country. A handful of Wildcats have qualified for the USATF Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which run June 23rd through 26th at Icahn Stadium in New York City.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?


The FISH Open Table lunch today is fish and chips. The senior lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table at 204 North Main Street, and noon to 1 p.m. at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
