New leader in Cle Elum City Council race

After trailing by 10 votes in early vote returns for the Cle Elum City Council Position 2 race, Ken Ratliff pulled ahead of Kiera Hyatt by 12 votes, 289 to 277, in counting as of Thursday. According to the Kittitas County Auditor’s Office website, the next count is on Nov. 20 and the race is certified on Nov. 28. Ratliff has served multiple terms on the city council. Hyatt is an 18-year-old Central Washington University student.


Coffee with Council today

The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 10 a.m. to noon, today, at the Ellensburg Downtown Association office on Third Avenue.


Affordable housing program tonight

The League of Women Voters of Kittitas County presents the State of Affordable Housing in Kittitas County program at 7 tonight at Hal Holmes Community Center. The program will feature Sarah Bedsaul, the chair of the city’s Affordable Housing Commission, and representatives from other affordable housing organizations. The event is free.


Fall Choral Classic this week

CWU’s Fall Choral Classic is Tuesday and Wednesday at the McIntyre Music Building. The event welcomes high school choral groups from across the state working with Central professors and music students and features free public performances by CWU choral groups at 11:40 a.m., 1:20 p.m. and 5:10 p.m., each day.


CWU hosts Sports Management Summit

CWU hosts the annual Northwest Sports Management Summit on Thursday. Ellensburg High School and CWU graduate Nolan Teasley will be the keynote speaker, Teasley in the Seattle Seahawks assistant general manager. The summit is geared toward aspiring sports management professionals. The event is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required. Information on the schedule and registration is available on CWU’s website.


Symphonic Band presents “Antiqua”

The CWU Symphonic Band performs “Antiqua” at 7 p.m., Thursday in the Hertz Concert Hall in the McIntyre Music Building. The concert is free and open to the public.


KEEN workshop on Thursday

The fall edition of KEEN’s Let’s Talk Series is set for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Thursday. The free fall workshop will be held at the Canyon River Ranch and is titled, “Is the Yakima River Canyon Scenic Byway as Important Wildlife Habitat Corridor?” Information on the speaker schedule is available on KEEN’s website.


Free screening of “Unseen” on Thursday

A free screening of “Unseen: How We’re Failing Parent Caregivers and Why it Matters,” will be held Thursday at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The documentary starts at 5:30 p.m. with a panel discussion to follow. The screening is sponsored by the Kittitas County Public Health Department, the Kittitas County Health Network and KVH.


Choir concert Friday

Community choir groups Vox Humana Vocal Ensemble and Valley Voices Community Choir will present Kindness is Free – Share the Wealth, a Choir Concert Benefit for the National Alliance on Mental Illness at 7 p.m., Friday, at the United Methodist Church. The concert is free but donations to NAMI Kittitas are welcome.


Registration open for boys basketball

Registration is open for the boys, first to eighth grade, basketball league. The early registration period is through Nov. 17. After that the cost goes up $20 and registration closes on Nov. 24. The player draft is Jan 6, practices start Jan. 15 and the play goes from Jan. 27 to March 2. Registration information is available on the city of Ellensburg’s website.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch Tai chicken coconut curry and oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
