Input sought on the superintendent search

Public input is being sought on the search for a new Ellensburg School District superintendent. A survey has been posted on the Ellensburg School District’s website. Troy Turnow is serving as interim superintendent for this school year.


Night Market is Wednesday

The first Holiday Night Market of the season is from 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Gard Vintners and the Ridge Encore at 404 N. Pine St. The event features vendors with handmade goods, sweet treats and more.


Having a cultural conversation

Chinese language and cultural instructor Zhong Xiaoyin is featured in CWU Library’s fall quarter Cultural Conversations at 5 p.m., today at Hal Holmes Community Center. Xiaoyin is from Guangzhou, Guangdong, China, where she developed a passion for food and the exploration of Chinese culture. The Cultural Conversations program provides a community forum for meeting new friends and learning about global cultures. The event is free.


Sounds of the season

People who enjoy holiday caroling are invited to take part in Christmas Caroling with the Valley Voices Community Choir. Rehearsals will be held at 6:30 p.m., today, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 at the Ellensburg Presbyterian Church in preparation for caroling on Dec. 17 and 19. Suggested donations are $30 for a family to participate in the series.


Burns planned on Cle Elum Ranger District

Cle Elum Ranger District personnel will be burning piles in a timber sale north of Liberty on Wednesday and Thursday.


Wind Ensemble concert on Wednesday

The CWU Wind Ensemble Concert is 7 p.m., Wednesday at the McIntyre Music Building. The Wind Ensemble is using this academic year to prepare to perform at the 20th World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles International Conference in Gwangju, South Korea in July of 2024. This performance is free.


Drug takeback event Thursday

People can dispose of unused, expired or unwanted medications and sharps during a Drug Takeback Event from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday at the McIntyre Music Building parking lot. The event is open to community members as well as Central students and staff.


Ware Fair starts on Thursday

CWU’s annual Ware Fair begins Thursday in the Student Union and Recreation Center and continues through Saturday. The event features more than 30 vendors. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to make a special appearance on Saturday. This is the 46th year for the event.


Jazz combo concert Thursday

CWU Jazz Combos 1 and 2 will perform their end-of-fall-quarter concerts on Thursday at the McIntyre Music Building Recital Hall. Combo 1 takes the stage at 6 p.m., followed by Combo 2 at 8 p.m. Both concerts are free.


Coffee with a Cop

CWU Libraries presents Coffee with a Cop with CWU and Ellensburg Police officers at 7 p.m., Thursday in the Brooks Library Fishbowl. The event is open to everyone.


Pair to be honored for years of service

The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame will honor Mike Allen and Joel Smith for their years of service to the organization during this week’s First Friday event, starting at 5 p.m., at the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame. Allen and Smith recently stepped down from the Hall of Fame’s board of directors but continue to volunteer.


SPORTS

High school winter sports get underway

The high school winter sports season gets underway tonight. The defending state champion Ellensburg girls’ basketball team hosts Eastmont at 5:30 p.m., with the boys’ matchup following at 7 p.m. The Kittitas boys’ basketball team welcomes La Salle at 7:30 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is beef Stroganoff, peas and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
