Return ballots today
General Election ballots must be returned by 8 p.m., tonight. Drop box locations are on the Kittitas County Auditor’s website. In anticipation of a high traffic volume, the Kittitas County Courthouse parking lot will be closed to parking today, and be open only for drop-off at the ballot box.
Court system outage impacts county courts
Kittitas County officials reported Monday that the state Administrative Office of the Courts recently identified unauthorized activity on the Washington Courts network. Immediate action has been taken to isolate the systems and work is underway to safely restore service. This heavily impacts majority of the systems that the Clerk's Office use to function. This includes publishing calendars, electronic filing, publishing new case filings and publishing judgments. All systems and functions will be up when it is safe to do so.
Operation Green Light is underway
Central Washington University, the city of Ellensburg, and Kittitas County will join the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veterans Service Officers in showing their support for the men and women who selflessly served our country and their communities by participating in Operation Green Light and lighting up buildings in green through Nov. 11.
Valley Theater auditions are approaching
Auditions for the Valley Theater Company’s “Peter and the Starcatcher” productions are Nov. 16 and 17. Registration information is on the Valley Theater’s website. The auditions will be in the Oddfellows Lodge.
Speaker presents stories of World War II veterans
Central Washington University history graduate student Alicia Callahan presents The Forgotten Stories of World War II veterans from noon to 1 p.m., today, in SURC Room 137A. Callahan traveled around the country this summer collecting the oral histories of World War II veterans.
Marine Corps birthday celebrated
CWU’s Veterans Center celebrates the Marine Corps' birthday on Wednesday with cupcakes available from noon to 4 p.m. at Bouillon Hall Room 214. Later on Wednesday, CWU’s Late Night Leadership Series features Army veteran and CWU alum David Puente Jr. talking about his journey from military service to his role as director of the state Department of Veteran Affairs. The presentation is at 5:30 p.m. in the SURC Ballroom.
Lecture explores Cuban art history.
The CWU Department of Art + Design hosts a lecture by art historian Asiel Sepúlveda from 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, The talk will be screened for viewers in Randall Hall Room 117, and will also be available online via Zoom. Titled The Plantation’s Smokescreens: Art and Vision in Nineteenth Century Cuba, the talk will explore how lithographic artists crafted new ways of seeing the Cuban landscape during the nineteenth century.
Pint Night supports the Veterans Center
Iron Horse Brewery features a Pint Night to support the CWU Veterans Center from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday. For every pint sold, $1 will be donated to the CWU Veterans Foundation Fund. Music will be provided by 88.1 The Burg.

EHS volleyball hosts a playoff game
The Ellensburg High School volleyball team hosts Selah at 6 p.m., Wednesday in the district championship match with a berth in the 2A state tournament at stake.
EHS cross country wins district titles
The EHS boys and girls cross country teams placed first in the Regional meet at Apple Ridge on Saturday. Grace Beachy led the Bulldogs girls winning the race in a time of 17:43 — the fourth fastest time in course history. Mystic Hammond won the boys’ race at 15:04. Both teams compete in the State 2A Meet at noon, Saturday at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
EHS soccer in district finals
The EHS soccer team faces Prosser at 6:30 p.m., today at Rich Leenhouts Stadium in Grandview in the district tournament finals. The winner advances to the state tournament and the loser has one more chance to qualify in a loser-out game.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken and sausage gumbo, rice pilaf and pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
