Sales of Washington’s pass to access state parks and other recreation areas fell after an Oct. 1 price hike, but fee collections increased. Figures presented to the state Parks and Recreation Commission on Wednesday show a 23% drop in the number of annual Discover Pass sales in October, compared to last year. Revenue from the passes climbed 16% year-over-year. Day pass sales and revenue slipped 2%. The decline in annual pass sales was anticipated. Even with fewer sales, the state expects to bring in more money with this fall’s $15 price increase.
The city of Ellensburg will hire the consultant firm Ardurra Group, Inc. to design and prepare construction bid documents for the Vantage Highway Shared Use Pathway project. The Ellensburg City Council gave its approval for a consultant contract with the company at its meeting last week.
Kittitas County has negotiated a new contract with Paul Maurer Shows for the Kittitas County Fair. Paul Maurer Shows has provided the amusement rides and shows, plus novelty and game concessions, for the county’s big end-of-summer event for the past five years.
Cori McKean will be appointed as Kittitas County coroner next week by the Kittitas County Board of Commissioners. McKean took over as acting coroner on Oct. 22 following the unexpected death last month of Nicholas “Nick” Henderson. McKean had previously been the county’s chief deputy coroner.

Central Washington University Women’s Volleyball team lost to Simon Fraser 3-2 on Saturday.
Central Washington University’s Women’s Basketball team beat Westmont 58-41 on Saturday.
Central Washington University’s Football team lost 27-20 to Western Colorado over the weekend.

What’s for lunch at the FISH Open Table? The FISH Open Table Lunch is Chicken Teriyaki with a jasmine rice, stir fry vegetable and mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
