Keep an eye on the mail

The Kittitas County Auditor’s Office will mail out ballots for the General Election today. Ballots can be returned by the mail or at drop boxes until 8 p.m. on Nov. 7.


CWU lecturer featured on Lions Rock

CWU lecturer and poet Xavier Cavazos will be the first artist featured in this year’s Lions Rock Visiting Writer Series today. Cavazos will present a Craft Talk titled “Radical Revision” at noon and a public reading at 6 p.m. in the Brooks Library Student Commons.


Family Literacy Night returns

CWU students will offer the first Family Literacy Night of the school year at 6 p.m., today in Black Hall, Room 122. Students in the Teaching Children’s Literature class will read and tell stories. Each child in attendance can choose a book to take home and snacks will be available.


Have coffee with the council

The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 9 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at the Kittitas County Chamber office on Main Street. Two council members will share coffee and conversation with the public.


Reed Park master plan open house Wednesday

A Reed Park master plan open house is at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday at the City Council Chambers. Information on the various park plan proposals is available on the city website. A survey is also available on the website.

Chance to support the chamber

Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day will be celebrated from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Elk Kitchen + Wine Bar in the Windrow Hotel. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.


CWU recital Thursday night

CWU faculty Nikolas Caoile (piano) and John Michel (cello) will perform works by Nadia Boulanger, Henriette Bosmans, and Kenny Bunch at a recital at 7 p.m., Thursday in McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. The recital is free.


Ribbon cutting for remodeled Nicholson

CWU will celebrate the completion of the Health Education and Nicholson Pavilion project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday at the west patio outside Nicholson. Work began on the $60.5 million project, which was funded by the state Legislature and private donors, in December of 2021.


Upper County candidate night Friday.

An Upper County Candidate Forum will be held at 6 p.m., Friday at the Putnam Centennial Center. Gary Berndt will moderate the forum. People can submit questions by arriving at 5:30 p.m.


Time to sign up for a turkey

FISH Food Bank pantry clients can sign up for a turkey and Thanksgiving dinner. Applications were made available on Monday and the deadline for signup is Nov. 3. Turkey are distributed on Nov. 17 and 20. FISH is accepting donations to assist in purchasing the turkeys. Information on how to donate is available on the FISH website.


SPORTS

High school sports action tonight

In Tuesday's high school sports, the Ellensburg soccer team travels to Othello for a 6 p.m. game, and the Bulldogs volleyball team plays at Grandview at 6:30 p.m. The Kittitas volleyball team hosts Granger at 6:30 p.m. The undefeated Cle Elum-Roslyn soccer team welcomes Warden at 6 p.m.


Central punter earns honor

CWU punter Dan Stewart earned the Lone Star Conference Special Teams Player of the Week award for his performance against Midwestern State on Saturday. Stewart averaged over 42 yards on six punts.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is pork carnitas, oregano lime rice and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
