The city of Cle Elum’s bankruptcy case will start hitting people in the pocketbook on Jan. 1. City councilmembers, serving as the board of the newly-formed Cle Elum Transportation Benefit District, voted to impose a 0.1% increase to the city’s sale tax at a special meeting Wednesday.
The Cle Elum City Council voted Tuesday to end its ban against vaping stores in the downtown area. The council had adopted an emergency six-month moratorium in August against such businesses in Cle Elum. The ban included the siting, establishment, licensing and operation of stores that sell vaping products and smoking paraphernalia.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is Beef Stew with a Roll and Pears. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
