NEWS
The city of Ellensburg is encouraging residents and businesses to conserve water in response to an order from the Washington Department of Ecology restricting surface water usage in the Yakima Basin.
The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is moving forward with a controlled blaze to cover up to 796 acres in Kittitas County, a measure aimed at reducing the threat of uncontrolled wildfires. This burn operation, situated approximately 11 miles west of Ellensburg, falls within an overarching strategy of preemptive fire management.
The Kittitas County Auditor's Office received perfect marks on its 2024 audit from the Washington State Auditor's Office. The audit was finished on Sept. 29.
A significant water storage project could be developed in the Yakima Basin as part of a comprehensive long-term plan designed to benefit both agricultural operations and fish populations in the region. The Springwood Ranch site just outside Ellensburg has been acquired through a collaborative effort between state agencies and conservation organizations, setting the stage for what could become a major reservoir project.
The #GetHomeSafe program is launching at Central Washington University this fall, in partnership with the Office of Health Promotion. Central students interested in taking advantage of the #GetHomeSafe partnership can use the code WILDCATSRIDESAFE on the Lyft app or by calling local taxi company Rainier Cab. They will be able to receive up to three free rides within five miles of CWU’s campus between the hours of 10 p.m. and 5 a.m.
Ellensburg native Grayson Smith was recently presented with the Walt Disney Legacy Award, an honor fewer than 1% of cast members receive worldwide.

LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is tuna salad sandwich with Cucumber Tomato Salad and whole fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
