Kachess Complex fires battled
Firefighters are battling the Kachess Complex Fire, which consists of three fires started by lightning strikes this past weekend. The Stave Creek Fire is the largest of the three, at 20 to 25 acres and 0 percent containment as of Tuesday afternoon. It is in steep and rugged terrain. Aircraft are assisting with water drops. The Thomas Fire is at 10 acres with 20 percent containment. The Davis Creek Fire is the smallest at one acre.
School board meets today
The Ellensburg School Board meets at 5 p.m., today at Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School to hold a public hearing on the 2024-25 budget. The board will consider adopting the budget at its study session following the public hearing.
Lenny Price plays at The Mule
Lenny Price performs as part of Jazz, Bite and Sips at 6 p.m., tonight at The Mule Cocktail Bar. Ticket information is available on Price’s Instagram. A limited number of $20 general admission tickets will be available on a first-come basis. This has been announced as Price’s farewell Ellensburg concert.
Meet Blitz on Thursday
Seahawks mascot Blitz will roll down from the Ellensburg Rodeo Arena to Jerrol’s at 4 p.m., Thursday. Blitz will be outside for photos and to raise awareness for the Seahawks’ Kicks for Kids to provide shoes for children and Jerrol’s Adopt a Student program. There will be free ice cream from Winegar’s inside the store. The event is sponsored by Jerrol’s, Winegar’s, the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce and the Seahawks.
Cop of Top on Thursday
The Ellensburg Police Department’s annual Cop on Top event is from noon to 6 p.m., Thursday, at Fred Meyer. The event features law enforcement leaders "stranded" on the roof of Fred Meyer to draw awareness and raise donations for the Special Olympics. All donations support Kittitas County athletes. This year's event includes raffle prizes and a hot dog BBQ. Back-to-school backpacks will be lowered from the roof for the first 150 kids attending the event. Goodie bags will also be lowered down for kids. Raffle tickets are $1 or $5 with different prizes for each level.
Junior Horse Show starts Thursday
The Kittitas County Junior Horse Show starts Thursday at the Kittitas Valley Event Center and runs through Sunday. Thursday’s schedule includes Western games in the Rodeo Arena at 10 a.m. and green horse driving in Bloom Pavilion at 3 p.m. The horse show is free and open to the public.
Women Build starts this week
Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build starts on Thursday. This event allows women to learn new skills, and support local women homeowners. Group builds will occur Thursday through Saturday, and individual builds on Wednesdays through Aug. 30. Funds support the next six homes of the 18 being built at the Ellensburg Stuart Meadows site. Information is on the Kittitas County Habitat for Humanity Facebook page.
Ellensburg Big Band performs
The Ellensburg Big Band performs at 6:30 p.m., Thursday, in the Concert in the Park series. This is a free, family-friendly concert and people are encouraged to bring snacks, dinner, blankets and chairs.
“Rango” is the Friday movie in park
“Rango,” will be shown at Veteran’s Memorial Park at about 9 p.m., Friday. The movie, presented by Ellensburg Parks and Recreation, is free. People are encouraged to bring chairs and snacks. This is the final movie in the city’s summer series.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is a trio of salads and garlic toast. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
