Heat leads to scheduling, program changes

Due to excessive heat, the Ellensburg Night Market scheduled for this evening has been rescheduled for Sept. 20. Also in response to the heat, FISH’s Picnic in the Park lunch program is allowing children to take lunches to-go through Thursday, and the city of Ellensburg opened cooling centers in the Ellensburg Public Library and Hal Holmes Community Center.


Word on the streat(eries)

The Pearl Bar and Grill has applied with the city to reinstall its streatery structure. The structure was taken down during the chipsealing of Pearl Street. The process to reinstall involves complying with a set of rules and fees and allowing for public comment. The application is available for review on the city’s website. Comments are being taken until Aug. 25. The Mule went through the process to reinstall its structure earlier this summer.


School supply drive underway

Court Advocates for Children is taking donations for a back-to-school supply drive through Aug. 28. Supplies can be dropped off at Jerrol’s, KVH, Ellensburg Police Department, Kittitas County commissioners’ office, Gaylyn’s Saloon, Cle Elum City Hall and CASA office.

Wildcats soccer prepares for the season

The Central Washington University women’s soccer team was selected to finish sixth in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference preseason poll. The Wildcats open their season against Humboldt on Aug. 31 at Interbay Soccer Stadium in Seattle.


EVENTS

A piece of the action

The Jigsaw Puzzle competition is set for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., today at Hal Holmes Community Center. There will be awards for best costumes, slowest puzzlers and best dance moves.


Party to kickoff Caldwell Building project

A party to kick off the Caldwell building restoration project will be held at 6 p.m., today. The 134-year-old Caldwell Building houses the Kittitas County Historical Museum and upstairs apartments. The historical museum secured almost $800,000 in funding to start a multi-phase restoration project in September.

Free school supply giveaway is Wednesday

The Kittitas County Health Network school supply giveaway event is from noon to 4 p.m., Wednesday at the Seedlings Center for Early Learning, 220 E. Helena Avenue.

Food distribution set for today

The Northwest Harvest Mobile Food Truck will distribute food to families in need from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Wednesday at St. Andrew’s Church. This is a drive-through service and cars will enter near the community garden. No documentation is needed.


Kittitas County Junior Horse Fair starts Thursday

The annual Kittitas County Junior Horse gets underway Thursday morning at Bloom Pavilion and continues through Sunday. The event is open to the public. The competition takes place in Bloom Pavilion and the Rodeo Arena.


Wolfpack performs at Alder Park

Wolfpack performs at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at North Alder Street Park as part of the Free Live Music in the Park series. Wolfpack is a rocking, rhythm and blues band.


Fair deadline nears

The deadline for entry to all Kittitas County Fair departments and indoor displays is 5 p.m., Friday. More information is available on the Kittitas County Fair website.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table lunch is Filipino sweet and sour chicken with rice, broccoli, a cucumber salad and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
