Chance to connect with legislators

Thirteenth District legislators are holding a virtual town hall meeting at 6 p.m., today. Sen. Judy Warnick, Rep. Tom Dent and Rep. Alex Ibarra will discuss the 2024 legislative session. Pre-registration is required. Links are available on the legislator’s websites, and well as the Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce Facebook page.

 

CWU signs agreement with Micronesian nation

Central Washington University will share knowledge and resources with the State of Kosrae for the next three years under a memorandum of understanding signed by the university and the Micronesian nation earlier this week. Kosrae officials are interested in what Central has to offer in terms of educating teachers. In return, the State of Kosrae has agreed to welcome CWU researchers to the South Pacific and provide them with access to resources and research sites that will help advance their work.

 

Man arrested for snowmobile theft

A 30-year-old Ellensburg man allegedly admitted to smoking meth, going on a drive, getting his Nissan Altima stuck in the snow and then stealing a snowmobile in the Easton Ridge area on Sunday, according to a post on the Kittitas County Sheriff’s Facebook page. The Sheriff’s post says the man abandoned the snowmobile at the end of a trail and hiked more than two miles to the Elk Meadows neighborhood. A resident saw him walking out of the bushes in the snow, in sneakers and called Kittcom.

 

Learn to prepare for disasters

Kittitas County Public Works wants to hear from the public on how to better prepare the community for disasters at public meetings at 5 p.m., today at the Centennial Center in Cle Elum, and at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Armory in the Kittitas Valley Event Center. The public will be able to review potential hazards in the community and the various mitigation measures to eliminate or reduce the impact of those hazards.

 

Learn about primary election

In preparation for the state’s March 12 presidential primary, Let’s Taco ‘Bout the Presidential Primary is set for 5 p.m., Thursday at the Student Union and Recreation Center Room 137. The League of Women Voters of Kittitas County organized the event that features four panelists and a moderator. There are free tacos for CWU students.

 

‘Shrek’ takes to the stage this week

The Ellensburg High School Winter Musical production of ‘Shrek’ debuts at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Morgan Performing Arts Center. The show continues with performances on Friday and Saturday, and on March 1 and 2. Tickets are $15 for general admission.

 

Provost speaker series highlights cancer research

CWU’s Provost Speaker Series features chemistry professor Timothy Bing at 5 p.m., Thursday, in the Brooks Library Student Commons. Bing will talk about how to make large nitrogen-containing cyclic compounds in a green and cost-effective manner. Collaborators then test the compounds for potential anti-cancer activity. A reception will follow.

 

SPORTS

Bulldogs and Warriors girls’ teams advance to state

Fans can watch a Cle Elum-Roslyn and Ellensburg girls’ basketball teams Regional State Playoff doubleheader at Ellensburg High School on Friday. Cle Elum-Roslyn is the No. 11 seeded team in the state 2B tournament and the Warriors face No. 14 Forks at 6 p.m. in a loser-out game. Ellensburg is the No. 1 in the state 2A tournament and the Bulldogs play No. 8 Columbia River at 8 p.m. Regardless of the outcome, both teams advance to play in the Yakima SunDome, starting on Feb. 28.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken tortilla stew and an orange. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
