Six apply for open Ellensburg City Council seat
Six people applied for the open Ellensburg City Council Position 3 seat created by the resignation of Adam Winn. The city council will interview the applicants at a special meeting at 6 p.m., Monday.
Reed Park plan to work way back to the council
The Reed Park master plan proposal will likely come back before the council at its March 18 or April 1 meeting, City Manager Heidi Behrends Cerniway said at Monday’s meeting. The ongoing planning process for the park on Craig’s Hill has been the subject of public comment at City Council meetings for the past several months, with people expressing concerns about changes to the park.
Second Harvest comes to campus
Second Harvest Inland Northwest is holding a free food distribution event from noon to 2 p.m., today at CWU. Free food items include nonperishable and fresh items. No appointment or documentation is required.
Event connects volunteers
Ellensburg Downtown Association is hosting an event to connect volunteers with the perfect match organization. Volunteer Speed Dating will take place at 5:30 p.m., Thursday at the EDA office on Third Avenue.
“Odd Couple” production continues
The Valley Musical Theatre production of “The Odd Couple” returns for its final weekend of performances starting on Thursday and continuing on Friday and Saturday at the Ramsey Center and Ballroom, located on the second floor of the Clymer Museum. CWU Music Faculty showcased
The CWU Music Winter Faculty Showcase is at 7 p.m., Friday at the McIntyre Music Building. The event features music faculty showcasing their talents to raise money for students. The showcase is free but donations are accepted with all proceeds going to music student programs.
Lunar Lunch feast Friday
A free Lunar New Year luncheon will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Friday at the Upper Kittitas County Senior Center. The Lunar New Year Luncheon provides an opportunity for the community to come together and celebrate the tapestry of cultures, traditions, and backgrounds that contribute to Upper Kittitas County.
Kickoff Super Bowl weekend with a fundraiser
The Ellensburg Education Foundation’s annual Super Bowl Warm-Up Fundraiser starts at 5 p.m., Friday at Teanaway Hall at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. The event includes dinner from Ellensburg Pasta Company, a silent auction, games and trivia contests. Money raised supports the Foundation’s Learning Enhancement Awards. Ticket information is available on the Foundation’s website.
Cattle drive on Saturday
The annual Eaton family cattle drive occurs Saturday in the Yakima River Canyon. Drivers can expect delays on state Route 821 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. and are encouraged to travel on Interstate 82 during that time. The cattle are moved from one pasture 10 miles north of Selah to another pasture 15 miles north of Selah.

Celebrate signing day
The CWU football team will celebrate its 2024 signing class with a celebration at 5 p.m., today at Ellensburg Brewery.
EHS basketball in district playoffs
Ellensburg High School basketball teams enter postseason action in district playoff games this week. The Bulldog boys host Selah at 7 tonight, and the EHS girls play the winner of East Valley vs. Grandview, at 7 p.m., Friday in Nicholson Pavilion.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is chicken Alfredo, mixed vegetables and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
