NEWS

EPD conducts its annual survey

The Ellensburg Police Department is conducting its annual safety and police-community interaction survey. The survey is available on the city’s website and takes five minutes to complete. Paper copies of the survey are also available at the library, city hall, police department, HopeSource, or upon request. The survey is open until Jan. 31.


Banned Books event on Thursday

Lion Rock Visiting Writers Series and CWU Libraries present “Banned Books,” an event dedicated to celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of intellectual freedom from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday in the Brooks Library Student Commons.


School board meets tonight

The Ellensburg School Board meets at 5:30 p.m., tonight, at Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School. The agenda includes retirement letters from orchestra teacher Kara Hunnicutt and physical education teacher Jeff Zenisek, effective after the end of the school year.


Valley Theatre presents “Peter and the Star Catcher”

Valley Theatre presents its Winter Play, “Peter and the Star Catcher,” starting on Feb. 7 in the IOOF Oddfellows Ballroom. The play is based on the novel by Dave Berry and Ridley Pearson. Show and ticket information is on the Valley Theatre website.


Ed Foundation plans Super Bowl Party

The annual Super Bowl Warmup Party to raise money for the Ellensburg School District Education Foundation is from 5:30 to 9 p.m., Feb. 7 in the Teanaway Hall on the Kittitas County Fairgrounds. Tickets are $50 and all proceeds support the foundation’s Learning Enhancement Award Program.


Chance to design Kittitas County Fair poster

The Kittitas County Fair is accepting submissions to design the 2025 Kittitas County Fair Poster. This year’s theme is “Ewe Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet.” Designs can be dropped off at the Kittitas Valley Event Center office or via email. More information is on the Kittitas County Fair Facebook page. The deadline is Feb. 28.


SPORTS

CWU hoops take to the road

The Central Washington University basketball teams are on the road this week. The men and women play at St. Martin’s on Thursday with the women’s game at 5:15 p.m. and the men at 7:30 p.m. The Wildcats visit Western Oregon on Saturday with the women’s tipoff at 2 p.m. and the men at 4:15 p.m.

 

EHS hosts wrestling meet

The Ellensburg High School boys and girls wrestling teams host Prosser on Thursday with the girls’ competition starting at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7 p.m.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a loaded baked potato, a roll and mixed fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
