More than 400 families helped
More than 400 families were served through FISH’s Community Christmas program. According to FISH officials, 372 families were adopted and 41 additional families shopped with money donated to the program. The Community Christmas program provides gifts for children and seniors. Kittitas County Search and Rescue volunteers helped deliver the gifts.
Dine and donate
Every Thursday in January, Red Robin of Yakima donates of portion of its food sales proceeds to support the Central Washington University Wind Ensemble in its effort to raise money to attend and perform at the 20th World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles in South Korea this summer. If the dinner shows a flyer available on the CWU Bands Facebook page, Red Robin will donate 20 percent of the food sales to the Wind Ensemble.
Early Learning event today
An Early Learning Coalition event is set for 3:30 to 6 p.m., today, at Hal Holmes Community Center. The event is for ages birth the 5. There will be free dino books and activities.
First noon concert of the year
The first Kairos and Friends Noon Lunch Concert of the year is at noon, Friday at Hal Holmes Community Center. The concerts feature CWU music professors, students and community members performing a variety of short musical pieces. The concerts are free and occur the first Friday of every month, October through March.
Tree recycling season is here
Christmas trees can be discarded for free at Kittitas County transfer stations in Ellensburg and Cle Elum through Jan. 31. The trees must be free of all lights and decorations.
City customers need to create an account
With the city’s new utility billing platform in place, utility customers who pay online need to create a new online account. Instructions on how to set up the account are posted on the city’s website. Information needed includes the customer’s new utility account number which is on the December bill.

CWU volleyball star goes pro in Albania
Former CWU volleyball standout and Ellensburg High School graduate Tia Andaya has signed a professional contract to play for K.S. Tirana in Albania. According to the Wildcat sports website, Tirana is the capital of Albania and the team is one of the most popular sports clubs in the region. Andaya finished her college volleyball career with numerous awards and honors.
Central hoop teams back in action
Basketball fans have a chance to see the CWU men’s and women’s teams in league action in doubleheader action Thursday and Saturday at Nicholson Pavilion. On Thursday, the women play Montana St.-Billings at 5:15 p.m. with the men’s teams facing off at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday the women welcome Seattle Pacific at 4 p.m. and the men host the Falcons at 6:15 p.m.
