In search of an anthem singer

The Cle Elum Eagles is holding a National Anthem singing contest at 7 p.m., Saturday. The contest is open to all ages and the winner sings at the Pioneer Days Parade on July 6.


Alley closures                                                    

The alley between Third and Fourth avenues, and Sprague and Anderson streets will be closed today for sewer repair.


D&D Jamboree on Wednesday

A Dungeons and Dragons Jamboree will be held at 6 p.m., today, at Hal Holmes Community Center. There will be free dice for new players, while supplies last, multiple tables and multiple games.


Cookbook author speaks on Wednesday

Amanda Zito, author of “The Motorcycle Camp Cookbook,” will hold a book signing and cooking demonstration from 4 to 6 p.m., today, at the Ellensburg Public Library. The event is part of the library’s Adventure Begins at Your Library summer reading program.


School board meets on Wednesday

The Ellensburg School Board meets at 5:30 p.m., today, Ida Nason Aronica Elementary School. The board will officially fill several teaching positions, and accept a donation from the Valley View PTA to pave a blacktop surface for a full basketball court.


Coffee with council on Thursday

The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Lunchbox Café. The event features two council members sharing coffee and conversation.


Fair looking for ambassadors

The Kittitas County Fair is looking for ambassadors to promote the 2024 fair. Applicants must be a high school junior or senior for the coming year, live in Kittitas County, have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have no misdemeanor or felony convictions. The application deadline is June 30. More information is on the Fair's Facebook page.


Gladiator Dash registration open

Registration is open for the Youth Gladiator Dash scheduled for Aug. 3 at Rotary Park. Participants can register at Kittitas Valley Memorial Pool or on the city’s website. People who register for $10 before July 22 receive a T-Shirt. The Dash includes running, jumping, sliding, crawling, balancing, hopping, searching, climbing, throwing, and the opportunity to get muddy.


Black Horse public hearing next week

The Kittitas County commissioners hold a public hearing to consider the infrastructure and phasing agreement for the remaining development phases for Black Horse at Whiskey Creek at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Commissioners’ Auditorium.


Kittitas summer reading program starts July 10

Even though the Gilmour Memorial Library in Kittitas has been closed since May 29 due to ceiling damage tied to a wind storm, the library will start its summer reading program on July 10. The program will be on Wednesdays through July 31. Registration forms are available at City Hall.


LUNCH                                                        

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a chicken teriyaki, jasmine rice and Mandarin oranges. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
