Upper County celebrates the 4th

The Upper County celebrates the 4th of July with its annual Pioneer Days Celebration this weekend. The fun starts at 7 p.m., Friday with Mike’s Tavern Rainier Revival Kickoff Party. Saturday highlights include the Pioneer Days Parade at 10 a.m., Roslyn Riders Play Day at 1 p.m. and the Ronald Heritage Festival at 5 p.m. The celebration concludes on July 4 with a fireworks show at dusk.


Liberty raising funds for bell tower

Liberty is staging a Fourth of July Parade and fundraiser to raise money to purchase an 1870s church bell and build a bell tower next to the Liberty Fire Station. The parade is at 10 a.m. July 4. Bricks with three lines of text are being sold as a fundraiser.


Street closure reminder

Three downtown city streets will be closed from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday for resurfacing. Fourth Avenue will be closed from Water to Ruby streets. Pearl Street will be closed from Third to Fifth avenues and Pine Street will be closed from Third to Fifth avenues. The project is weather-dependent.


KEEN looking for campground hosts

Following the vandalism of it summer camp equipment at the Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center earlier this month, KEEN is looking for volunteer campground hosts to spend the summer at the park to protect the organization’s investment. Contact keen@keenetwork.com.

Kickoff for teen reading program

The kickoff for the Ellensburg Public Library’s teen reading program is 3:30 p.m., Thursday, at Hal Holmes Community Center. There will be pizza, surprises and swag. Sign-up is required.


Coming together for yoga

The Ellensburg Public Library’s Yoga Together Now event is 6 p.m., today at Hal Holmes Community Center. A reservation is required.


Steel drum orchestra to perform

Steel Magic Northwest, a youth steel drum orchestra from the Edmunds and Kent areas, performs at 6 p.m., Saturday at North Alder Street Park. The performance is free and people are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and a picnic.


Tune in tonight for a special Lines on Vines

Tonight’s Lines on Wines at 5 p.m. will feature a discussion of irrigation in the Yakima Basin. Host Marji Morgan’s guests include Kittitas Irrigation District Manager Urban Eberhart and the Sunnyside Irrigation District Manager.


What's for lunch today?

The FISH Open Table lunch is barbecue chicken, baked beans, coleslaw, cornbread and peaches. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
