Election results final

In the one General Election race that remained too close to call, Ken Ratliff edged Kiera Hyatt by 14 votes for Cle Elum City Council Position 2 as the results were certified as final Tuesday. Ratliff trailed by 10 votes on election night but took the lead as more votes were counted.


Stage 1 burn ban in place

The state Department of Ecology has placed Kittitas County under a Stage 1 burn ban, which prohibits outdoor, agriculture or forest burning and uncertified wood stoves or fireplaces, except when the wood stove is the only source of heat.


Night Market is tonight

The first Holiday Night Market of the season is from 5 to 8 tonight at Gard Vintners and the Ridge Encore at 404 N. Pine St. The event features vendors with handmade goods, sweet treats and more. The market is organized by the Ellensburg Downtown Association.


Wind Ensemble concert on Wednesday

The CWU Wind Ensemble Concert is at 7 tonight at the McIntyre Music Building. The Wind Ensemble is using this academic year to prepare to perform at the 20th World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles International Conference in Gwangju, South Korea in July of 2024. This performance is free.


Drug takeback event Thursday

People can dispose of unused, expired or unwanted medications and sharps during a Drug Takeback Event from 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday at the McIntyre Music Building parking lot. The event is open to community members as well as Central students and staff.


Ware Fair starts on Thursday

CWU’s annual Ware Fair begins Thursday in the Student Union and Recreation Center and continues through Saturday. The event features more than 30 vendors. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to make a special appearance on Saturday. This is the 46th year for the event.


Jazz combo concert Thursday

CWU Jazz Combos 1 and 2 will perform their end-of-fall-quarter concerts on Thursday at the McIntyre Music Building Recital Hall. Combo 1 takes the stage at 6 p.m., followed by Combo 2 at 8 p.m. Both concerts are free.


Plant sale on Thursday

The CWU Viola Studio’s Plant Sale will be from noon to 2 p.m., Thursday in the McIntyre Music Building rotunda. The will be small plants, propagations, small pots and plant decorations.


Tree of Love is Friday

The annual Tree of Love candlelight vigil at 6 p.m., Friday at Hal Holmes Community Center will honor and celebrate Hearts and Hands 40 years of providing hospice services in Kittitas County. The event will include a meal and slideshow honoring those who passed away this past year. Call 509-968-5117 to RSVP.


Final weekend for “A Christmas Carol”

CWU Theatre Department’s production of “A Christmas Carol” returns for its final weekend of performances Friday through Sunday at McConnell Auditorium. There are 7:30 p.m. showings on Friday and Saturday, and a 2 p.m. matinee on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for children.


Pair to be honored for years of service

The Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame will honor Mike Allen and Joel Smith for their years of service to the organization during this week’s First Friday event, starting at 5 p.m., at the Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame. Allen and Smith recently stepped down from the Hall of Fame’s board of directors but continue to volunteer.


SPORT

CWU player honored by league

CWU’s Sunny Huerta was named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference women’s basketball player of the week. Huerta averaged 33.5 points a game in Central’s two wins this past weekend. The Wildcats are on the road Thursday at Western Oregon and Saturday at St. Martin’s.


LUNCH

The FISH Open Table Lunch is a fried chicken bowl with mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, cheddar cheese, a roll and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
