NEWS

Central supporting freshman athlete

Central Washington University’s football team is seeking community support for a freshman player who was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer after arriving on the CWU campus for fall camp. In late August, Ellis Nelson returned home to Kirkland after experiencing symptoms and was referred to Fred Hutch Cancer Center at UW Medical Center, where a biopsy confirmed an aggressive form of B-cell lymphoma. Further tests revealed Nelson had Burkitt Lymphoma, a rare yet aggressive form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Nelson is undergoing treatment and Burkitt has a high cure rate. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Nelson and his family. There is a link to the campaign on the Central Athletics website.
