Gas rates to increase
Gas rates will be going up effective Jan. 1, 2024, as the city of Ellensburg works to come into compliance with state regulations regarding carbon reductions and greenhouse gas emissions. The average winter gas bill is expected to increase $31 a month in 2024 for legacy customers. For hookups after July 25, 2021, the increase is estimated at $45 per winter month. The rate is projected to continue to increase at higher increments through 2030. The council approved the first reading of this ordinance.
Reed Park master plan open house Wednesday
A Reed Park master plan open house is at 6:30 p.m., today at the City Council Chambers. Information on the various park plan proposals is available on the city website. A survey is also available on the website.
Have coffee with the council
The monthly Coffee with City Council event is from 9 to 11 a.m., today at the Kittitas County Chamber office on Main Street. Two council members will share coffee and conversation with the public.
Chance to support the chamber
Support Your Local Chamber of Commerce Day will be celebrated from 6 to 8 p.m., today at the Elk Kitchen + Wine Bar in the Windrow Hotel. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided.
CWU recital Thursday night
CWU faculty Nikolas Caoile (piano) and John Michel (cello) will perform works by Nadia Boulanger, Henriette Bosmans, and Kenny Bunch at a recital at 7 p.m., Thursday in McIntyre Music Building Concert Hall. The recital is free.
Ribbon cutting for remodeled Nicholson
CWU will celebrate the completion of the Health Education and Nicholson Pavilion project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Friday at the west patio outside Nicholson. Work began on the $60.5 million project, which was funded by the state Legislature and private donors, in December of 2021.

An Upper County Candidate Forum will be held at 6 p.m., Friday at the Putnam Centennial Center. Gary Berndt will moderate the forum. People can submit questions by arriving at 5:30 p.m.
Yakima Training Center to hold fall festival
The public is invited to the Yakima Training Center’s first fall festival from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Saturday. The festival will include military displays, an antique car show, a pumpkin patch, a hay maze and food trucks. Entry is $10 per carload and those over 16 need a photo ID to enter.
Repair café this weekend
The monthly Rodeo City Repair Café is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery Shop on Brick Road.
Ski equipment swap meet on Saturday
The annual KCSSC Youth Ski and Snowboard Club is 11 a.m., Saturday at Dru Bru-Cle Elum. This is a chance to sell and purchase gear and attend multiple free clinics throughout the day. There is a gear for all ages.
Time to sign up for a turkey
FISH Food Bank pantry clients can sign up for a turkey and Thanksgiving dinner. Applications were made available on Monday and the deadline for signup is Nov. 3. Turkey are distributed on Nov. 17 and 20. FISH is accepting donations to assist in purchasing the turkeys. Information on how to donate is available on the FISH website.

Chance to see the swim team
The Ellensburg High School swim team’s last home meet of the season is at 5 p.m. today at the CWU Pool. Seniors on the team will be recognized at this meet.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is sweet and sour meatballs, jasmine rice and broccoli. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
