Drive-thru vaccine clinic is today
The annual drive-thru flu and COVID vaccine clinic is 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the Kittitas County Fairgrounds Western Village. Vehicles should enter from Alder Street. The clinic is organized by the Kittitas County and Health Department and Community Health of Central Washington. The vaccines are free but supplies are limited.
Concert of the season approaches
CWU’s Symphony Orchestra presents its annual Halloween Concert at 7 tonight in the McIntyre Music Building. This concert features seasonally spooky music and an array of creative costumes. Tickets are $15 for general admission.
Public input sought on Upper County Recreation Center
There will be in-person and virtual opportunities for the public to comment on the proposed Upper Kittitas County Community Recreation Center. An in-person meeting will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday at the Dru Bru events room. Virtual meetings are on Thursday and Nov. 1. Information on registering for the meetings is on the city of Cle Elum’s website.
Strengthening Families program begins
The first session of the free Strengthening Families Program offered by the Kittitas County Health Network starts at 5:30 p.m. today in the Morgan Middle School library. The seven-session program runs through Dec. 13. To register, contact Diana Wilson at dianawilson@esd401.org or call 925-8146.
Road closed ahead
Two of Ellensburg’s main thoroughfares will be closed overnight this week to allow the installation of permanent pavement markings. Main Street will be closed between Third Avenue and University Way and Wildcat Way will be closed between University Way and Wildcat Way from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. through Friday. This will mark the completion of the city’s overlay project.
Luminary fundraiser is Thursday
A luminary fundraiser to support breast cancer research starts at 6 p.m., Thursday outside of City Hall. People can sponsor a luminary bag for $5. Information on how to support is on the city of Ellensburg’s website.
Learn about the plight of pygmy rabbits
The Kittitas County Audubon Society will present “The Pygmy Odyssey: A small rabbit’s journey back to the sagebrush,” at 7 p.m., Thursday at the Hal Holmes Community Center. State Department of Fish and Wildlife biologist Katherine Soltysiak will talk about the recovery of the Columbia Basin pygmy rabbit population over the past 20 years.
Hunters breakfast at wind farm
Puget Sound Energy and the Kittitas Field and Stream Club are hosting a free Hunter Breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m., Friday at the Wild Horse Renewable Energy Center. Hunting is allowed on the 11,000-acre wind farm property but hunting access permits must be filled out online. Permits will not be available at the visitor center.
Take a scary drive
People can vote for their favorite Halloween homes during the Haunted House Driving Tour from Friday through Halloween. Ellensburg Community Radio has created a Halloween soundtrack to accompany the tour. The tour is being sponsored by Chamberlin Team Real Estate and Coldwell Banker Center Information on downloading the tour map and music playlist is on the Chamberlin Team Real Estate website.
A day to dispose of medications
The Kittitas County Health Network is offering a Drug Take Back and Paper Shred Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday at Community Health of Central Washington on Mountain View Avenue. People can bring outdated or unused medication for disposal. Paper shredding also is available.
Last market of the season
The final Ellensburg Farmers Market of the season is Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Ellensburg. The market will return on May 4, 2024.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table lunch is red wine beef stew, dinner roll and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
