The Ellensburg City Council approved a new contract Monday with the city’s AFL-CIO union workers. The three-year agreement with the Office and Professional Employees International Union Local No. 8 will run from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2028.
Wildcat Way will be closed starting at 7 a.m. on Thursday, December 18 for a tree removal on the Central Washington University campus. The street closure is necessary so a crane can get in position to perform the work.
The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce is encouraging middle-schoolers to participate in the 2025–2026 National Civics Bee Regional Competition. The chamber is joining with U.S. Bank and the city of Ellensburg’s Hal Holmes Community Center in the contest that showcases civics knowledge, community insight and leadership potential. The contest is open to all sixth, seventh and eighth-grade students. Students must write a 750-word essay that shares an idea that can improve their community. Essays will be accepted through Feb. 3.
Enjoy an exhibition of the Milwaukee Railroad history housed in the original depot every Friday and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m., from Dec. 26 through March 14. The event is free, but visitors will need a Discover Pass for each vehicle.Â

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?
The FISH Open Table Lunch schedule is not out for December but we know the lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
