Blewett Pass
US 97 over Blewett Pass reopened Thursday as crews continued to fight the 15-acre Blewett Fire at the top of the pass between Kittitas and Chelan counties. The fire was started by humans on Wednesday in timber, brush and grass. On Thursday, motorists were encountering single-lane pilot cars controlling traffic near the summit.
Whipsaw hosts Ryan Thompson Pint Night
Whipsaw Brewing hosts a Ryan Thompson Pint Night starting noon on Saturday. The event features food by Good Mood Food and Santana Grill and music by Rusty Cage and Spiced Rye Band. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Kittitas Sheriff Association and support the Cops and Bobbers event.
Chance to support animals
Kittitas County Friends of Animals will have a table at the Cle Elum Safeway on Friday to collect pet food donations and money.
Birdie Fenn Cent to perform at Tiny Stage
Birdie Fenn Cent will perform on Ellensburg Community Radio’s Tiny Stage in the Ink Building from 5 to 7 p.m. tonight as part of the First Friday celebration. Fenn Cent’s performance as will be broadcast live over ECR’s streaming service.
“Super Mario Brothers” shown at Roslyn Yard
“Super Mario Brothers” will be shown at sunset, Saturday, as part of the Roslyn Yard Summer Nights film series. The free outdoor movie series continues on Saturdays through Sept. 28.
Workshop focuses on starting an ag business
The Kittitas County Chamber of Commerce presents a starting-an-ag-business workshop from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, at the Business Development Center in Cle Elum. The workshop addresses the codes, regulations, requirements, permits, taxes and insurance involved in starting a business. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased on the chamber’s website.

Volleyball registration closes Friday
Registration for the Adult Open Volleyball League closes today. Teams may register and individuals can sign up for the Free Agent List. Teams may play with any combination of female or male players; there is no minimum for either gender. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.
High school football kicks off Friday
High school football season starts tonight for three of Kittitas County’s teams. Ellensburg hosts Othello at 7 p.m. Kittitas welcomes Granger at 7 p.m. Cle Elum-Roslyn hosts Manson at 7 p.m. Easton’s football team opens on Sept. 14 at Clallam Bay.
CWU teams open season
CWU’s fall sports teams open their seasons on the road this week. The women’s volleyball team plays San Francisco State in Bellingham today. The women’s soccer team plays Point Loma in San Diego on Saturday. The football team also is in San Diego, taking on the University of San Diego at 1 p.m., Saturday.
Mini volleyball registration open
Registration for Ellensburg Parks and Recreations mini-volleyball program, for kids in grades first through third, is open until Sept. 13. Mini-volleyball is a clinic-based introduction to volleyball skills and fundamentals, running from Sept. 23 to Oct. 10. Registration information is on the Parks and Recreation page of the city’s website.
LUNCH
The FISH Open Table Lunch is Focaccia pizza, garden salad and fruit salad. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in Ellensburg, and noon to 1 p.m., in Cle Elum. Meal sites are the Ellensburg Open Table and the Cle Elum Seventh-day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg location.
