The weather this weekend could be a recipe for rapid wildfire spread in Eastern Washington, according to state officials. With a potential for record-high temperatures across the state Sunday, a warm and dry trend in Eastern Washington and projected winds, The state Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to use caution outside. Temperatures will be in the 80s leading up to this weekend, with a chance for showers and thunderstorms focused in the crest of the Cascades and west into the North Bend foothills area.
The cause of the Ryegrass Coulee Fire is still under investigation, officials with the Washington Department of Natural Resources said Tuesday. The origin of the fire is believed to have come from a boat trailer that was being towed, however. A damage estimate from the blaze has not yet been released.
Three students from Kittitas County have been recognized for academic achievement at Spokane Falls Community College. Samantha Combs of Ellensburg, Ashley Poulsen of Ellensburg, and Lyndsey Halte of Cle Elum have been named to the 2026 spring quarter honor roll. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or above to be listed on the honor roll.
Kittitas County’s new transfer station opened for business Tuesday on West Green Avenue in Ellensburg. The lower county facility, a temporary landing spot for trash that’s coming from commercial haulers or people who haul their own garbage, has been in the works for years.
The 2026 Northwest Carving Academy continues today at 8 a.m. at the Kittitas Valley Event Center. The Northwest Carving Academy is a world-class carving event that features instruction on hand and power carving, pyrography, painting, design and basket weaving.
The Music in the Gardens Series continues today at the Brick House Gardens and Nursery at 6:30 p.m. You'll be surrounded by blooming flowers, live music from local artists and wine from Sagecliffe Cellars. The musical guest is Lenny Tunes. 15$/per person, 12 and under free
The Valley Theatre Company continues it’s run of The Addams Family Musical tonight at 7 p.m. at the Morgan Performing Arts Center.
Cody Bartells plays at Dru Bru up in Cle Elum tonight at 6 p.m. for free.

WEATHER
The forecasted high tomorrow in Ellensburg is 91 degrees with a low of 58. Look for mostly sunny skies and a hot one. The sunset is at 8:52 p.m. with winds coming out of the North Northeast at 20-30 MPH.

The senior lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table at 204 North Main Street, and 11:30 to 1 at the Upper County Senior Center in Cle Elum. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
