Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue Chief DJ Goldsmith had been placed on administrative leave before he was fired Dec. 23, district officials said this week. In a Dec. 30 press release, distributed a week after Goldsmith’s termination, Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue offered an outline on the timeline of Goldsmith’s departure as well as new details on what’s next for the department. Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue commissioners said Roy Palmer, a retired fire chief from Oregon, started as interim fire chief on Thursday.


Single-lane closures on westbound Interstate 90 will start Tuesday near Cle Elum, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The closures are prompted by the replacement of the Bullfrog Road overpass, which was hit by a semi-truck pulling an overheight load in October. State transportation officials said the work on the span at Exit 80 is in the final phases.

Central Washington University’s  Women’s Basketball team won 77-65 at Alaska-Fairbanks on Saturday. They play Simon Fraser on Thursday at home. 


The Central Washington University Men’s Basketball beat RV Northwest Nazarene 75-63 on Saturday. They play Alaska-Fairbanks on Thursday.

The FISH Open Table Lunch is Pork Verde with Rice, Sour Cream and Whole Fruit. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
