Kittitas Valley Fire & Rescue commissioners terminated Fire Chief DJ Goldsmith during a special meeting last week. The vote to fire Goldsmith was unanimous.
Voters in four school districts across Kittitas County will cast ballots on school-funding measures during a special election in February. The Ellensburg, Easton, Kittitas and Thorp school districts have levies on the Feb. 10 ballot. Ballots will be mailed to registered voters Jan. 20. The Ellensburg School District is looking to replace its expiring levy for educational programs and operations.
The amount of annual visitors to the Kittitas County Historical Museum is climbing. Museum Director Sadie Thayer presented a look back over the year, and a preview of coming attractions, to the Kittitas County Historical Society Board at the board’s annual meeting last week. Thayer said the number of visitors totaled 10,504 through Nov. 30.
In observance of New Year's Day, there will be no services for fixed route (city bus), Dial-A-Ride or Yakima-Ellensburg Commuter on Thursday, January 01, 2026. Service will resume on Friday, January 2nd as scheduled.

WHAT'S FOR LUNCH AT THE FISH OPEN TABLE?
The FISH Open Table Lunch is a baked potato with Broccoli, a roll and apples. The lunch is open to all seniors age 60-plus from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Ellensburg Open Table, and noon to 1 p.m., at the Cle Elum Seventh Day Adventist Church. The community lunch for anyone needing a hot meal is from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Ellensburg Open Table.
